General Safety Principles

Members of our community are expected to prioritize safety and wellbeing. Behaviors that reinforce these values contribute to a positive environment:

• Being aware of surroundings. Remain alert to potential hazards and report them promptly.
• Following safety instructions. Adhere to all posted safety guidelines and staff directions.
• Looking out for others. Help ensure the safety of fellow participants, especially those who may need assistance.
• Reporting incidents promptly. Timely reporting allows for swift response and prevention of further issues.
• Respecting physical boundaries. Always obtain consent before initiating physical contact.
• Maintaining cleanliness. Help keep shared spaces clean and organized.
• Being prepared. Familiarize yourself with emergency exits, first aid stations, and evacuation procedures.

Health Considerations

• Illness prevention: Please stay home if you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of contagious illness.
• Medication and medical needs: Participants are responsible for managing their own medications and medical needs.
• Dietary restrictions: When applicable, communicate dietary restrictions clearly when registering for events.
• Accessibility needs: We strive to accommodate various accessibility requirements; please communicate these in advance.

Event-Specific Safety Measures

In-Person Events

• All venues are evaluated for safety compliance before selection.
• First aid kits are available at designated locations.
• Staff members are trained in basic emergency response.
• Clear signage for emergency exits and assembly points.
• Accommodation for participants with mobility considerations.

Online Events

• Protection of participant privacy and data.
• Secure platforms with appropriate access controls.
• Moderation of content to prevent harmful material.
• Guidelines for appropriate online interaction.

Prohibited Items and Behaviors

The following items and behaviors are prohibited at all Python Togo events:

• Weapons of any kind (including but not limited to firearms, explosives, and large knives)
• Illegal substances
• Harassment or intimidation
• Disruptive behavior that threatens safety
• Smoking outside of designated areas
• Blocking emergency exits or safety equipment
• Tampering with safety systems (fire alarms, extinguishers, etc.)
• Entering restricted areas without authorization

Emergency Procedures

Medical Emergencies

1. Assess the situation and ensure your own safety
2. Call local emergency services immediately
3. Notify the nearest staff member or volunteer
4. Do not move an injured person unless absolutely necessary
5. If trained, provide appropriate first aid until help arrives

Fire Safety

1. Activate the nearest fire alarm if you discover a fire
2. Exit the building immediately using designated emergency exits
3. Do not use elevators
4. Proceed to the designated assembly point
5. Report to event staff for headcount

For other emergencies (natural disasters, security threats, etc.), follow instructions from event staff or venue security personnel.

Incident Response Protocol

Python Togo follows established procedures for addressing health and safety incidents:

1. A detailed report is collected from the person experiencing or witnessing the incident
2. The safety team reviews the report and gathers additional information if needed
3. Appropriate measures are taken based on the severity and nature of the incident
4. Follow-up and support is provided to those affected
5. Incidents are documented while respecting privacy and confidentiality
